The Cathar Country Sites
Lagrasse (11 km)
Classified as one of the “Most Beautiful Villages in France” and a “Town of Art and Crafts,” Lagrasse is a medieval gem nestled in the valley where the Orbieu River flows. Its cobbled streets lead you to the medieval halls and then to the foot of its famous abbey.
Fontfroide Abbey (17 km)

The Cité of Carcassonne (30 km)

The Castles

NARBONNE (26 KM)
Narbonne, often referred to as the “Little Florence of Languedoc,” will delight history and heritage lovers. You’ll enjoy strolling through its streets and alleys in the historic center, discovering its architectural treasures, and wandering along the banks of the Robine Canal, which is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Gothic Cathedral of Saint-Just and Saint-Pasteur will catch your eye throughout your visit. Near the cathedral, the Archbishop’s Palace houses the Archaeological and Art Museums.
Narbonne was the first Roman capital in Gaul. The Horreum Roman Museum is an underground maze of ancient warehouses, and the Narbo Via Museum boasts a rich archaeological collection. Not far from here, the Amphoralis Museum, a large pottery production site, highlights this ancient past.
Take a walk through its covered market, one of the most beautiful in France. Take this opportunity to stop for oysters or tapas at one of the small restaurants amidst the bustle of the stalls.
THE VINEYARDS
The AOC Corbières Wine
The vineyard’s roots dig into soils of infinite variety, winding through fragrant garrigues, karst or schist peaks, clay-limestone plateaus, and plains of coral limestone. A spectacular horizon that gives the Corbières landscapes an incomparable beauty and a unique identity to its wines.
Whether independent or cooperative wineries, the winemakers will share with you the story of their wines and the work of the vine. Tastings are often available at their estate or wine cellar.
They regularly organize walks through the vineyards or festive and musical evenings… Take the time to meet them and taste their wine.

Les Grands Buffets in Narbonne

THE CANAL DU MIDI (25 KM)
The Canal du Midi, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, is one of the oldest functioning canals in Europe. It realizes an ancient dream: to connect the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea via inland waterways. Full of ingenuity, rich in history, and dotted with impressive works of art, the Canal du Midi is an unmissable tourist attraction.
Navigating the Canal du Midi is a unique and charming experience. These cruises promise a complete change of scenery.
The reputation of the Canal du Midi’s banks is well established, and walking or cycling along them is a great way to discover this unique waterway. Like real postcards, the banks of the Canal du Midi offer bucolic walks full of history.


THE SWIMMING SPOTS
It is possible to swim in the river at Saint-Laurent-de-la-Cabrerisse, Ribaute, and Lagrasse. You can freely settle under the trees and on the stone slabs.
At Saint-Laurent-de-la-Cabrerisse, near the Nielle River water reservoir, picnic tables are available.
In Ribaute, swimming is supervised in the summer at the Fargue water reservoir, located upstream from the rocky area and the waterfalls.
At Lagrasse, the Saint-Jean water reservoir, located at the foot of the abbey, is supervised in the summer. The water is shallower, making it more pleasant for young children.
Large sandy beaches are located 40 minutes away at Port-la-Nouvelle and Narbonne Plage, and 55 minutes away at the famous “chalet beach” in Gruissan.
THE SPORTS ACTIVITIES
Hiking and Mountain Biking
The Corbières are wild lands, perfect for outdoor activities such as hiking and biking. Numerous marked paths and trails allow you to explore these preserved and varied landscapes, including garrigues, vineyards, the Canal du Midi, gorges, and alpine meadows.
There are 4 loops starting from the village for hiking. Ranging from easy to moderate difficulty, these hikes vary in duration from 1 hour for the shortest to 3.5 hours for the longest.
The Ronde in the heart of the Corbières is a 100 km circular hiking route around 14 communes, including Saint-Laurent-de-la-Cabrerisse. It can be tackled in 5 or 6 days for those seeking a sporty challenge or more leisurely to discover breathtaking views.
Fishing
Lakes, ponds, rivers, the Aude River, or the Canal du Midi—this region offers plenty of opportunities for fishing. You can fish in Saint-Laurent-de-la-Cabrerisse (the Nielle river) and nearby villages.
Canyoning
Equipped with a wetsuit, slide, jump, and swim in the Termes canyon.
Several other outdoor activities and water sports such as canoeing, caving, stand-up paddleboarding, climbing, and archery are available in the area.
Horseback or Donkey Hiking
Take a few-hour ride, a half-day trip along a marked route, or a full day for the more athletic, all in the heart of nature with experienced guides.
